The first time I sat with a friend and journeyed with them through their end of life, I felt a comfort and a calling. It was so apparent to me that this was the most important time in life for a person to be fully supported and provided resources to make their own decisions each day.
Allowing each person to find their own peace leading up to our final transition, is the ultimate reward.
Over 70% of people say they want to die at home yet only around 20% actually are given that opportunity. We have sanitized death by handing it over to hospitals and have lost the honor of sharing this incredible journey with our loved ones. My dream is to take the taboo and dread off this common and shared experience and allow all of us to talk about it more openly and productively.
My mission as a Death Doula and death awareness advocate is to empower and inspire my clients to envision their end of life journey. During this pivotal and sacred time, we can take charge of our physical, emotional and spiritual care to create our own authentic experience aligned with our values. I can help provide the support and resources to assist a person through life's end and after.
End-of-Life Doulas complement the care provided by family members and friends, as well as medical, palliative, and hospice professionals, within the settings of hospitals, senior care facilities, and homes.
EOL Doulas support clients with individualized, compassionate care in several ways, including emotional, spiritual, informational, and physical support, which greatly helps to lower stress levels, aid in comfort, and promote personalized, even positive, dying passages for clients and their loved ones.
We can assist in creating memories for loved ones, completing paperwork for wishes and care, provide standard burial alternatives, and develop life celebrations. Doulas are able to support individuals through all aspects of their end of life journey, working with the dying and medical and legal partners.
We help long before you (or your loved one) reaches end of life. By then you may not be able to take advantage of amazing resources. Take the opportunity to make decisions, prepare and plan ahead so that your journey, no matter how long or short, is full of peace, love and comfort.
